What a great week on beautiful Lake Fork. The water temperatures ranged from 55 to 65 degrees and the water clarity is still muddy in the north creeks and stained in the rest of the lake. However, that did not stop the Bass from starting to move into the creeks to spawn. A lot of patterns are working such as spinner baits, split shot rigs, rattle traps and Carolina rigs are working well. The Chartreuse/white/orange spinner bait with gold blades worked the best for us throughout the week in the muddy water. We also used pink flukes on our split shot rigs in 3 foot of water around isolated stumps close to large flats. Note: the Lake Fork Trophy Lures chartreuse Ring Fry is also working on the split shot rigs. The ¾ ounce Rayburn red rattle still was working all over the lake in 2 to 4 foot of water on entrances to flats from deep water. Of course, the Carolina rigged 6 inch watermelon/red lizards is a good go to bait when fishing gets tuff.
The White Bass are still moving up the creeks to spawn. Strike King square bill crank baits and small white spinner baits are a good way to catch your limit.
The Crappies are still spawning in two to three feet of water around the stumps on large flats. A few are being taken on jigs but the best bite is on minnows. Have fun!
The Catfish are also in the shallow water. Many Crappie fishermen are catching the Catfish in the same areas as the Crappies. Minnows are your best bet for the next few weeks for the spawning Catfish.
Lake Fork Marina has plenty of minnows for you Crappie and Catfish fishermen. The have gotten in the new Smash-Tech, Smash Tail, Smash Tail Jr. and the Outlaw baits. Stop in and see the friendly staff at Lake Fork Marina for the latest that is happening on the lake and check out the new clothing lines in stock.
