What a great week on beautiful Lake Fork, TX. The lake is full and the Bass are eating the frog, big time! The dark brown Strike King Sexy Frog wore the Bass out this week. We threw it in the nastiest grass we could find and they would just explode on it. What great fun! Once the frog bite was over, it was trick worm time. We used a june bug colored Zoom Trick Worm rigged wacky style at the edges of the old weed beds. Throw it just inside the weed edges and drag it out. They will hit it on the fall. We did catch a few really nice Bass in 6 to 8 feet of water on a Santone black/blue jig.
The White Bass were going crazy again this week. Joe Spaits Flashtail ½ ounce spoon, in white and black pattern worked the best for us to put large White bass in the livewell. They were still in 19 to 20 foot of water on top of brush piles.
The Crappie fishermen continued to have good luck on white/chartreuse crappie jigs tipped with a minnow. A few fishermen were using strait minnow rigs and were not doing as well as the Crappie jig tipped with a minnow.
The Catfish are moving into the deeper water. A few are still being caught in 3 foot of water, but the better Catfish are being taken in 25 to 30 foot of water on punch bait around baited holes.
I had the pleasure to start using Duckett fishing rods this week. I bought them from Lake Fork Marina and let me tell you there are the best feeling rods I have used in several years. Lake Fork Marine also has a great selection of the Strike King Sexy Frogs and don’t forget they have really good Crappie minnows.
I have several openings in June for guided Bass trips. If you are getting ready for the Skeeter Owners Tournament, let me help you! Give me a call at: (903) 413-6919 or E-mail me at: [email protected]. Have a safe fishing week and don’t forget about the frog bite.
