Lake Fork / Mexico Fishing Report 9/1/16

Lake Fork:

Well it looks like the dog days of August are about over and the temperatures are starting to come down. Right now the water level here is 401.62 with 403.00 being at full pool and the water temperature is in the middle to upper 80's. The recent rains had the water in the creeks off color but it is clearing up now and the main lake is in good shape. The fishing over all should start to really improve as the night time temps are starting to go down and its getting really nice to fish again without all of the Summer heat.

The Bass fishing is starting to improve with several big fish already being caught in the past few days. The shad should start to move up the creeks into shallow water soon and the numbers of fish being caught will improve. Try working Top Water baits, Square Bills, Wacky Worms and Traps around the main lake points early in the morning and look out to deeper water around 10 am. C-Rigs, Spoons and Jigs are still producing some good fish in a little deeper water if you can hit them at the right time. Try fishing close to 18-25 feet of water.

The Crappie fishing has started to improve and we are catching limits around the bridges and over brush piles in about 18 feet of water. Right now Jigs are producing some real nice Crappie and we have guides available.

The Catfish are still biting and have bit for most of the summer in about 20-25 feet of water over baited holes. Its not hard to catch 50-60 Catfish right now. The Catfishing should remain good until the end of November depending on the weather.

Mexico: We have just returned from fishing most of August at Lake Falcon and the Bass fishing was awesome. We were averaging 50-80 Bass per day up to 11 lbs during late July and just about all of August. We caught several 7 to 9 lbers and plan on doing guides trips there again next Summer as well. Please Sign Up early for these trips and call me for our guide info on Falcon. We have posted some of our picture on Facebook at lakeforkproguides.com

Our trips to Lake Picachos, El Salto and Comedero that we posted earlier in the year have all but filled up but we do have some available spots at different times from November 2016 through May of 2017, if you are interested in fishing with us at one of these fantastic lakes. The Bass fishing for numbers and Big Bass at these lakes last year was Awesome. I already have 125 guys going with me so far in 2017 and want to say THANKS GUYS for joining us. January through May in Mexico there is some great Bass fishing and I can show you how to arrange and take a fishing trip of a lifetime. Contact me at 214.236.330 for the latest information on flights, hotels, TSA regulations, conditions and current fishing reports about any of these Mexico lakes. As always, 2017 should be a Blast !

A BIG THANKS to everyone that supports us and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Thank you,
JW Peterson

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.20 feet above pool. Fork has been good with fish in just about every stage of the spawn. Lots of fish are shallow in 1-4 feet with Texas rigs, yum dingers, chatterbaits, flukes, and swim jigs. Offshore bass are good on humps and points in 5-7 feet of water with Carolina rigs with light weights, mid-running crankbaits, and shaky heads. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Changing weather means changing bite. First phase bass spawners are now in a post spawn pattern and aggressive. Frog pattern topwaters are excellent in the grass and brush. Casting into the pockets and letting the frog sit for a few seconds is a good idea. Crappies are shallow, small fish patterns like wooly buggers are a good bet. Bream are beginning to make themselves known in the shallows, wooly buggers and small poppers should bring a strike. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie are great with some pre-spawn fish, some fish actively spawning and some post spawn. Fish can be found in a few feet of water to 30 feet of water. All crappie on Lake Fork do not go shallow to spawn and we catch fish in 18-20 feet that are spawning on timber. You can also find some fish on brush, lay downs, bridges and docks. It is a very versatile time to catch crappie with multiple patterns. Minnows will work great right now but any crappie baits will catch fish. Try small hand tied jigs and soft plastics. Catfishing is excellent right now on Lake Fork around timber in 12-20 feet. Still seeing loads of fish around roosting trees. Lots of birds in the shallow areas close to the bank in the early mornings chasing shad spawns. The catfish are also up there feeding on shad as well. Use any prepared catfish baits or cut shad on baited holes in the timber. Use a cork with anything a catfish will bite up shallow. Minnows and cut shad will work great on this shallow fish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
