This week we saw the water temperatures stabilize a little, they were 64 to 68 degrees in most parts of the lake. The water clarity remained the same from muddy in the creeks to stained in the main lake. The Bass fishing was fair this week with the Zoom Fluke and the Zoom Baby Brush Hog being the best baits. I took off my weight on the fluke split shot rig and fished it weightless thru the grass and buck brush. We fished the Zoom Baby brush Hog on a Carolina rig. The best water depth was 16 to 22 foot of water over brush piles around the edges of drop offs. The best colors for both fluke and the brush hog was watermelon/red and don’t forget to dye the tails chartreuse. Our rod and reel combination that we use this week continued to be Duckett rods and ABU Garcia Orra SX reels with 17 pound Stren.
The White Bass are just about done spawning. The can be caught with shad colored Strike King 1.5 square bill crankbaits on points early in the morning or if you decide to sleep in, you can catch them in 19 foot of water over brush piles with Joe Spaits Flash Tail ½ ounce spoon in the white/black pattern.
The Crappies are also just about done spawning. There are several still in creeks in 2 to 3 feet of water, but most of them are on the move back in to deep water. The best way to catch the shallow crappies are to use minnow rig. The deeper fish can be caught with orange or chartreuse/pink Crappie jigs.
Lake Fork Marina just got a new shipment of Duckett Rods in. So while you are at beautiful Lake Fork make sure you stop in Lake Fork Marina and not only check out the Duckett rods but all of the new tackle they have in stock.
