Wow, catching Bass in the heat! The water temperatures remained in the lower 90’s and the water clarity continues to get better all over the lake. Even with the water temperatures in the 90’s it really didn’t seem to affect the fish this week. We still were able to catch them in 3 to 4 foot of water in the early morning hours and about 08:30 moving into 16 to 20 foot of water. Our shallow water bite was still on a wacky rigged chartreuse/pumpkin Zoom Trick worm. The deeper bite was using the good ole Carolina rig. We did go back to the watermelon/red Zoom Baby Brush Hog on the Carolina rig and used a LO 45 2/0 Eagle Claw hook and a 4 foot leader. We continued to use Duckett rods and ABU Garcia Orra SX reels lined with Stren 17 pound Clear Blue Florissant line. A great combination!
The White Bass are still scattered out on humps and creek bends. There a few good White Bass hanging out at all of the bridges. This week I used the white and black Joe Spaits Flashtail spoon. We needed just a little smaller presentation.
The Crappie fishing was still very slow. The best way to catch them was at the 515 bridges using minnows. Look for them in 24 foot of water. The bite is very light.
Catfish fishing was still very good this week. Look for them in 26 to 30 foot of water around baited trees. Punch bait was their favorite bait.
Ken and Dana Donahue the owners of Lake Fork Mariana have done a great job of remolding the tackle shop. When you get to Lake Fork make sure you stop in and see all the changes in the tackle store and make sure you check out the Duckett Rods and ABU Garcia reels on display.
