It was a warm and stormy week here at Lake Fork. The water temperatures are in the upper 80’s and the water clarity runs from stained to highly stained in the upper creeks. The Bass fishing was fair at best! We caught them with Strike King KVD 1.5 crankbaits early in the morning. As the day progressed, we moved to the Carolina rigged watermelon/red Zoom Baby Brush Hog in 20 to 26 feet of water along old wood lines. In the afternoons, it was all about fishing the lily pads! We used the Zoom chartreuse/pumpkin trick worms, rigged wacky style. We use a nail in the head of the trick worm to get the worm down through the pads and grass. For the equipment list this week, we used Duckett rods, ABU Garcia Orra SX reels, Stren 17lb test line, Strike King Crankbaits, Zoom Soft plastics, a 2017 Ranger Z520 C and my trusty Mercury 250 Pro X.
The White bass were all over the place and were not schooled up like the Crappies were. We caught them with Joe Spaits chrome and chartreuse flutter spoon in 22 to 28 foot of water. Make sure you keep the flutter spoon down and do not let get out of the strike zone.
The Crappie on the other hand really had the feedbag on. Chartreuse Bubba’s Bait Crappie jigs worked the best. You did not need minnows this week. Look for them in 20 – 23 foot of water over isolated brush piles.
No Catfish report this week.
While you are beautiful Lake Fork, make sure you stop into Lake Fork Marina and check out the selection of Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, and there Zoom soft plastic products. You will not be sorry!
