It was a hot rainy week here at beautiful Lake Fork Texas. The water temperatures are in the lower 90’s, the water clarity in the creeks is stained, and the main lake is good. The Bass fishing is fare with many fish being taken on the drop shot rig and the Carolina rig in deep water. We used the Zoom chartreus/pumpkin finesse worm and the Zoom tomato finesse worm on the drop shot rig in 20 to 24 foot of water over brush piles. The Buddy’s Custom Baits from here at Lake Fork Boss Hog, in the watermelon/candy/red color, was the best bait to use on the Carolina rig. We dipped the tails of the Boss Hog, about a 1/4 –inch, chartreuse. We fished the Carolina rig in 18 to 20 feet of water on creek bends that had isolated old stumps and brush piles on them. Fish both the Carolina rig and the drop shot rig very slowly!

The Crappie fishing this week was fare. The best bait was the chartreuse Bubba’s Bait 1/8 ounce Crappie jig fished in 24 foot of water over isolated brush piles. The Crappie anglers that fished around the bridges found the Crappie fishing pretty tuff this week.

The White Bass are still on a diet. They are in 28 to 30 foot of water and are suspended over old brush piles. The best way to catch them was by using a ¼-ounce Bubba’s Bait white with an orange tail Crappie jig tipped with a minnow.

The Catfishing was a completely different story. The Catfish was eating very well on Punch bait and minnows. There are in 24 to 30 foot of water around isolated trees and like the trees to be baited. They also can be found around isolated brush piles in 20 to 22 foot of water.

On our equipment list, this week was our Ranger Z520c powered by a Mercury 250 Pro XS, Duckett rods ABU Garcia reels, Lowrance electronics, Stren line, Bubba’s Custom Baits, Zoom soft plastics, Strike King Crankbaits and Buddy’s Crappie jigs.

Yes, the weather is hot but the fish are biting. If you need a guided Bass trip give us a call here at J & M Guide Service, (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us at bassmr@geusnet.com. Have a safe fishing week and stay hydrated.
