Because Life is Better at the Lake

Lake Fork Fishing Report for March 17, 2019

J & M Guide Service
Professionally fishng for 43 years. Guiding on Lake Fork for 18 years. Sponsored by Nichols Marine, Ranger Boats, Mercury Motors and Lake Fork Trophy Lures.

We were met this week with cold, wet and windy weather. The water temperatures are still in the lower 50s and the water clarity is stained to muddy. A few good Bass in the 10 to 12 pound class were caught but most of the Bass were small male Bass. A number of different baits were such as black and blue jigs, black and gold jerk baits, chatter baits, chartreuse and white spinner baits and flukes. Our personal favorite this week was the split shot rigged Zoom watermelon/red fluke. We dyed the tails chartreuse and fished it in 2 to 4 foot of water using a slow twitching motion.

The Crappie fishing was slow this week. With the cold weather the Crappie have backed off from their spawning areas. With the weather warming up this coming week I expect them start moving back in to start spawning. The old fashion minnow rig will work just fine.

The White Bass have stopped moving in and staged in 24 foot of water around isolated brush piles and creek bends. The Bubba’s Bait black and chartreuse Crappie jig tipped with a minnow worked the best.

The Catfish anglers are still having a tuff time. What few Catfish that were being caught were caught on punch bait. The best water depth was 20 feet.

On our equipment list this week, is our Ranger Z520c powered by a Mercury 250 Pro XS, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, Stren line, Bubba’s Bait Crappie jigs, Buddy’s Custom Baits and Zoom soft plastics.

Here at J & M Guide Service, we have a couple of dates open for guided trophy Bass trips in March and April. Give us a call at (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us at Have a great fishing week and fish safe!

FAIR. Water stained; 82–86 degrees; 1.19’ low. Largemouth bass are slow on deep diving crankbaits, bumping artificial worms, and spinners. While slow some large 8–10 lb fish have still been caught the past week. White and yellow bass are good on Alabama Rigs. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows. Catfish are good on prepared bait.
