Lake Fork Guide Fishing Report 4.18.13

Welcome to Lake Fork Temps have been ranging from 62 in the mornings to 70 in some of the pockets in the afternoons where we have been fishing. The lake is still just under 4 1/2 ft. low. We have a cold front with rain moving through right now and will drop the temps. Fish are still spawning in several areas of the lake and will see another good wave on the full moon later in the month. This has been a strange April so far with this late front coming through now and another one coming next Wed.The fishing just hasn't been as as consistent on a day to day basis so far this month for us as it was last year. I have done very little sight fishing thus far. We have been fishing mostly secondary points and shallow on main lake points and northern banks of protected pockets.Try to throw close to the bigger wood on the points in 3 to 6 ft. of water. We have throwing Grande Bass rattlesnake Os in green pumpkin and watermelon red colors on Bayou Tackles shaky heads in 3 1/16 to 3/8 oz sizes. We are also using a 1/4 oz Mausrin jig head made by Damiki Fishing Tackle with the rattlesnake Os. When the wind has been stronger we're using a Mega Strike 1/2 oz shaky head.Texas rigged baby brush hogs and lizards will get their share of bites too at times. Also throwing Zoom super flukes on a short c-rig on these places. Watermelon candy and green pumpkin with the tail spiked with chartreuse has been the most productive on the flukes.Small shallow square bills in shad colors have worked well in windy conditions hitting them off the wood. We have a shad spawn going on right now too so try a weightless fluke or wacky finesse worm also when you see some of this activity. When fishing out and staying away from some of these bedding fish throw a yellow magic or rouge on top of them at times. The fishing will get a lot better after this front passes and water temps jump back up. Just remember to fish very very slow with the soft plastics. We should have a strong finish as April ends and May will be a great month to fish! I hope these tips will help you catch a few more fish! I have a few days open for the rest of th is month and I'm now taking May dates. If you need a guide feel to email me [email protected] or call my cell @ 972-979-4850. As always thanks for reading my report. Good Fishing! Eddie Garrett

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 17)

GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.20 feet above pool. Fork has been good with fish in just about every stage of the spawn. Lots of fish are shallow in 1-4 feet with Texas rigs, yum dingers, chatterbaits, flukes, and swim jigs. Offshore bass are good on humps and points in 5-7 feet of water with Carolina rigs with light weights, mid-running crankbaits, and shaky heads. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Changing weather means changing bite. First phase bass spawners are now in a post spawn pattern and aggressive. Frog pattern topwaters are excellent in the grass and brush. Casting into the pockets and letting the frog sit for a few seconds is a good idea. Crappies are shallow, small fish patterns like wooly buggers are a good bet. Bream are beginning to make themselves known in the shallows, wooly buggers and small poppers should bring a strike. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie are great with some pre-spawn fish, some fish actively spawning and some post spawn. Fish can be found in a few feet of water to 30 feet of water. All crappie on Lake Fork do not go shallow to spawn and we catch fish in 18-20 feet that are spawning on timber. You can also find some fish on brush, lay downs, bridges and docks. It is a very versatile time to catch crappie with multiple patterns. Minnows will work great right now but any crappie baits will catch fish. Try small hand tied jigs and soft plastics. Catfishing is excellent right now on Lake Fork around timber in 12-20 feet. Still seeing loads of fish around roosting trees. Lots of birds in the shallow areas close to the bank in the early mornings chasing shad spawns. The catfish are also up there feeding on shad as well. Use any prepared catfish baits or cut shad on baited holes in the timber. Use a cork with anything a catfish will bite up shallow. Minnows and cut shad will work great on this shallow fish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
