The post Easter week was very interesting. The water clarity in the creeks is still very stained and the main lake is lightly stained. The water temperatures ranged from 64 to 70 degrees. There are several of Bass still spawning. However, there are a lot Bass in the post spawn mode. Let’s cover the spawning Bass first. The fluke and the lizard worked the best for us this week. The black or June Bug color 8 inch Zoom Lizard pitched into the heavy weeds along the edges of the water worked really well. The watermelon/red fluke with chartreuse dyed tails worked great along weedy edges. We split shot rigged the fluke this week because of the windy conditions. Ok guys and gals it’s time to get the small crank baits out and get ready for the post spawn. The post spawn bass will be chasing shad and bream in the 2 to 6 foot of water range. Make sure you sharpen those hooks on the crank baits.
The White Bass are still up the creeks spawning. The White Bass were wanting minnows this week while there were spawning. A few of the large White Bass were caught on small chartreuse square bill crank baits.
The Crappie fishermen were on the hunt for the Crappies. There are a few Crappies still trying to spawn, however they were hard to find this week. The Crappies were being caught stumps with both jigs and minnows. It was a 50/50 shot on which one worked the best this week.
The Catfish were still being caught in the muddy creeks where they are trying to spawn. Minnows and cut bait both worked good this week.
While you are here at beautiful Lake Fork, make sure you stop in at Lake Fork Marina and check out their selection of small crank baits and soft plastics. They also have great minnows for live bait fishermen.
