Crazy weather was with us again this week. The water temperatures dropped in to the mid 40’s with a slight rebound to 50 degrees on Saturday afternoon. The water clarity is stained on the main lake to downright muddy in the back of the creeks. On a positive note the lake water level came up over two feet. The Bass fishing improved on Friday and Saturday. The ticket is "do you know how to fish muddy water"? I brought out some old tricks from fishing the Ohio and Mississippi rivers in my younger days. The first thing was I changed my jig color from black/blue to black/brown and I put away plastic trailers and used Unckle Josh black #11pork frog as a trailer. The next thing is I put away my chatter baits and got out my ½ ounce black/red/orange spinner bait. I slow rolled it in 4 to 8 feet of water looking for isolated cover and water temperatures around 48 to 50 degrees. It really paid off on Saturday afternoon. With warming temperatures this coming week the lake ought to really turn on.
The White and Yellow Bass fishing was slow this week. A few were being taken on minnows in 28 feet of water around the bridges.
The Crappie fishing slowed down this week due to falling water temperatures. I expect it to pick back up this next week. The Crappies that were being caught were caught on minnows in 13 to 18 foot of water around bridges.
No Catfish report this week.
