It was a hot and muggy week here at Lake Fork. The water temperatures remained in the low 90’s and the water clarity continues to get better. However, with the heavy rain we are getting as I write this report the water clarity may change. The Bass fishing was fair this week with the Joe Spaits chartreuse/chrome spoon being the best bait to use. You need to fish it 19 to 24 foot of water on main lake points and sharp creek bends. While you are fishing, the creek bends make sure you also use a Carolina rig with a Zoom watermelon candy Baby Brush Hog and a Santone peanut butter jelly ½-ounce jig. Both the Carolina rig and jig you need to work very slowly. Just a little hint, on your Santone jig use a Gene Larew 4.25” Rattin’ Crawler in the Mad Bluegill color as a trailer. On our equipment list this week was our Ranger Z520c powered by a Mercury 250 Pro X, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia Orra SX reels, Stren line, Zoom soft plastics, Gene Larew trailers, Joe Spaits spoons and Santone jigs.
The White Bass fishing also slowed down a little this week. We continued to use Joe Spaits chrome and chartreuse 5-inch spoon to catch them. We found them in 32 to 35 foot of water off main lake points. They were suspended about two feet off the bottom, so make sure when you swim the spoon you keep it down in the strike zone.
The Crappie fishing was good this week. The folks that fished the main lake bridges did well with Bubba’s bait 1/8 ounce white with orange tail Crappie jigs. When the Crappie bite slowed down the crappie anglers tipped the jig with a minnow. Works every time! ☺
The Catfish anglers also had a great week. The anglers that did the best-used Jell-O bait and punch bait in 22 foot of water around old baited trees.
