It was a really good fishing week here a t Lake Fork. The water temperatures are now in the Mid 80s and the fish have settled into their summer patterns. The Whopper Plopper still put good numbers of fish in the boat from day light to about 08:00. From 08:00 on, we used a few different baits such as the Zoom June Big Trick worm, rigged wacky style and the watermelon/red Zoom Baby Brush Hog rigged on a ¼-ounce shaky head jig. One thing to be noted is that we fished grass and Lilly Pads most of the week. Make sure you put a nail in the head of the trick worm and dye the tails of the Baby Brush Hog chartreuse. On our Equipment list this week we used Duckett rods, Abu Garcia Orra SX reels, Land2Sea Whooper Ploppers and Zoom soft plastics.
I would like to take a moment to talk about boating safety. We have many boaters on the lake trying to beat the next person to their favorite fishing hole. Please be careful not to run over someone in the next boat!
The White Bass are in the 24 to 26 foot of water. The White Bass are schooled up and when you catch one you will probably catch several. They can be caught by using Joe Spaits chrome or white Flashtail 1/2 ounce jigging spoon or his chrome and chartreuse 5-inch flutter spoon.
The Crappie anglers had to work for Crappies this week. I blame the weather! The ones that were caught were caught on minnows in 20 to 22 foot of water over isolated brush piles.
The Catfishing also slowed down this week. They are still in the 26 to 28 foot of water around old trees. The anglers that were catching them were baiting the trees and using punch bait.
The Skeeter owners Bass Tournament is this coming weekend. Skeeter Boats and Lake Fork Marina will host it. Make sure, while you are there you stop into Lake Fork Marina and check out the new tackle shop. They have a good selection of Land2sea Whopper Ploppers, Duckett rods and ABU Garcia reels.
Here at J & M Guide Service we have two days left open for guided Bass trips to help you get ready for the Skeeter Owners Tournament. Give us a call at (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us at [email protected]. Please be safe on the water!
