It is really getting pretty here at Lake Fork. The Leaves are starting to turn and the water temperatures are falling. The water temperatures ranged from 63 to 66 degrees and the water clarity is stained to slightly stained depending where in the lake you are fishing. The Bass are moving into their winter feeding grounds in 12 to 26 feet of water. The Carolina rig and Joe Spaits Flashtail spoon was the baits of choice this week. The bait that we used on our Carolina rigs was a Lake Fork Trophy Lures chartreuse/pepper Hyper Stick, fished in 12 to 15 foot of water on main lake long sloping points. You want to use a sweeping motion with your rod and you can’t move the bait slow enough. When we moved into 21 to 26 foot of water we used Joe Spaits ½ ounce silver Flashtail spoon. A straight up and down jigging motion worked the best. The rod and reel combinations we used this week continued to be Duckett rods and ABU Garcia reels.
The White Bass are starting to school up on main lake brush piles in 23 to 30 foot of water. We fished directly over the brush piles using Joe Spaits ½ ounce Flashtail spoon in silver or white/black colors. A straight vertical jigging motion worked the best.
The Crappie fishing was great this week. Our better Crappies came out of 24 – 28 foot of water on Joe Spaits silver ½ ounce Flashtail spoon. The Crappie are getting close to their winter time patterns!
No report on catfish.
