It was a windy cool week on beautiful Lake Fork this week. The water temperatures dropped to 73 degrees and the water clarity is stained over most of the lake. Lake Fork Marina hosted the Berkley Bass Tournament and as usual they did a great job. The tournament drew more than 1100 contestants. The big Bass was a 9.56 for the over the slot fish and a 2.86 won the honors for the fish under the slot. Both lucky fishermen both won a new Skeeter boat and motor package. Not bad for one set of the hook! Most of my clients this week used Berkley products getting ready for the Berkley Tournament however; I continued to use Tightline green 4 inch hogs and Strike King square bill crankbaits in the gizzard shad pattern. We fished in less than 12 of water on old road beds and grassy weed banks close to 8 to 12 foot of water. The rod and reel combinations this week continued to be Duckett rod and ABU Garcia reels lined with 17 pound Stren line.
The White Bass were a little more active this week. Several good White Bass were being caught on minnows and small chartreuse/blue tail kicker baits. Look for them in 16 to 24 foot of water around the bridges and isolated brush piles. Spoon time is about here!
The Crappie fishing continues to get better. The bridges are lined with Crappie fishermen and they are doing well on both Crappie jigs and straight minnow rigs.
The Catfishing remained fare this week. Several good Catfish were being taken in 12 to 20 foot of water on cut bait. I even caught some on a square bill crankbait while Bass fishing early in the morning.
Speaking of small square bill crankbaits, Lake Fork marina has a good supply of crankbaits and swim baits for this Fall fishing. They also have a great supply of Berkley sweatshirts to keep you warm on these cool Texas mornings. Stop by and see them and get the latest happenings on the great Lake Fork.
