Lake Fork Guide David Vance Trophy Bass Fishing Report

The fishing here on Lake Fork has been great the last few days. There are fish in all depths from a foot of water out to 20 feet. The shallow water bite has been excellent early in the morning throwing a Stanley Ribbit weightless over the top of scattered grass and cover. The Frog bite has been very aggressive, and when you get bit you will definitely know they are killing it, best color on the frog for me has been Black, Watermelon, and White.

Once you feel like you have caught the active fish in the area try backing up to 10 to 15 feet and work a Carolina Rig, right now the best bait for me has been a Watermelon Candy Brush Hog, we have been catching some big post spawn bass on this pattern. Tim West and Steve Wright fished with me and we had a great day we boated 45 bass and Tim had one that went 8 lb 3oz and Steve had one that went 9 lb 12oz most of these bass came on the Carolina Rig.

May is a great month to fish Lake Fork it is our best top water time, and it can last all day. My best top water baits right now are a Stanley Ribbit, a 1/8 oz Buzz Bait, and a Yellow Magic. Good places to try right now are Little Caney, Wolfe, Running Creek, Birch Creek. The weather this spring hear on Lake Fork was the coldest I have seen in a long time and the fishing was up and down. The lake is in great shape, and I think May and June are lining up to be some of the best fishing, the size and numbers has been great! I look forward to this time of year the weather is nice and the bigger Bass will be moving out deep and will be feeding up and are easy to catch. If you are looking for some great May and June fishing Lake Fork is the place to be, book your trip now for best available dates you can reach me at 903-629-5085 or check out my web site www.lakeforktexasbigbass.com

Good Fishing,
David Vance

Fishing Report from TPWD (Apr. 30)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.21 feet below pool. Shad spawn is decent in the early morning with diesel chatterbaits and small spinnerbaits on points with birds. Flukes and wacky rigs are good around grass and the edge of grass in 1-3 feet. Work topwaters over the bass guarding fry in the pockets. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
