Hard Core (Major League Fishing format) is pretty cool getting to count every fish you catch.

This months installment of the qualifying round no one caught the 6 LB to move on in October. Because the fishing really SUCKED!
Like the real TV show every fish over 10" counts. You must catch 6 LB + in one of the qualifying tournament to move into the semi-final. We set it low so most of our members would make to the second level. But there is three ways to qualify. Then in the semi-final on a portion of the lake drawn that morning:

The first ten members to catch 8 lbs will record it on the back of their score sheet and have the other person in the boat sign the sheet and record the time. They will qualify for the finals in November. Which will be held in one of the two remaining lake sections.

Today 5/29 was qualifying tournament # 7

It wasn't really a bad day, not to hot in the morning, winds pretty variable, some cloud cover. Water temps in the low 80's. So why was the fishing so bad? The highest number of fish caught by one person was 4 and then we go down from there.

Boaters:
First place went to Dennis Bubinas from Emory with 4 bass for 7.15 with the 3.02 lunker.
Second place went to Charlie Abresch from Hawkins with 3 bass for 5.08 with a 2.02 lunker
Third place went to Don Overstreet of Sulphur Springs with 3 bass for 4.62 with a 1.72 lunker.

Co-Anglers (Judges)
First place went to Charlie Arnold of Lake Fork with 1 bass for 5.49 which was also the lunker.
Second place went to Wayne Smith of Lake Fork with 3 bass for 4.91 with a 2.13 lunker
Third place went to Ken Kielbas of Arlington with 3 bass for 3.26 with a 1.63 lunker

26 keeper bass were caught today. None of them on top water lures. Drop shots and c-rigs also accounted for a bunch. Fishing was terrible pretty much across the board.

For info on fishing this tournament and others put on by the Lake Fork Anglers contact me at [email protected]. We have openings for boaters right now. This is a club that fishes only on Thursday daytime. Dues are $5 a year.

All of our tournaments are priced for seniors as follows. $10 entry 100% payback, $1 for club and $1 for the Top 6 team* So Total entry of $12. Optional lunker pool 80% payback of $5. Optional 100% payback side pot for $10 per person.

In addition to this format that we call "Hard Core" we also fish our regular every other Thursday tournament, and a team tournament all at Lake Fork on a draw style fishing. All of our tournaments "paper" the bass and slot fish count.

If you are as "Hard Core" as some of us you can fish every Thursday like we do. And some Fridays too. And then Opens on the weekend.

Hey we are seniors and we are supposed to be doing something to keep us healthy and our minds sharp and get some vitamin D. LOL At least that is what you need to tell your wife.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 1)

GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.67 feet above pool. Lake Fork flood gates are open which can make the bite tough. The best bite has been on shaky heads and Carolina rigs on main lake points and secondary points in 5-8 feet of water. Squarebill crankbaits are catching a few in the same areas. Frog bite is slow over flooded grass. Yum dingers are fair at the edge of the grass 2-4 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. The crappie fishing on Lake Fork has been great this week if you find the right areas and patterns to fish. The spawn is coming to an end and the black crappie are beginning to load up on certain bridges and docks. If you search you can find some big schools of keeper size black crappie. We have had to battle heavy rains, terrible winds and even thunderstorms lately a lot. Hopefully we will see more stable weather conditions over the next few weeks. You can still find some larger white crappie on timber in 10-22ft. Also seeing some white crappie loading up on certain brush in some areas close to where they spawned. Jigs and minnows are both producing well right now and should stay the same until around June or July. Catfishing is still hot on Lake Fork. Baited holes in 12-20ft along creek channels are doing great for channel cats. Use cattle cubes or sour grain to get them to hold in one spot. Then use any prepared catfish bait or cut shad to load the boat with eater sized catfish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
