Lake Fork Fishing Report for April 20, 2014

Happy Easter! This was a short week due it being Easter week. The fishing was great all week. The Bass spawn is in full swing and they are on beds everywhere on the lake. The Lake Fork Trophy Lures Hyper Stick still was the major fish producer this week. The split shot rig was the primary way we fished it, however a couple of days, the wind was mild and we fished it weightless. The other bait that produced a lot of fish was the zoom fluke, pearl white color worked the best. We also dyed the tails of the fluke chartreuse. The rod and reel combination of choice this week continued to the Ardent Apex reels and Ardent Denny Brauer Signature rods. What a combination!

The White Bass have went nuts this week. I found them on humps in 15 foot of water. Joe’s spoon was the ticket once more this week for them. Also small Crappie jigs tipped with small minnows also worked.

Crappie fishermen continued to be pleased. The best Crappie were being taken out of 4 to 6 feet of water on minnows.
The Catfish are also in that 4 to 6 foot range. The Catfish are mixed in with the Crappie and are driving the Crappie fishermen crazy. Cut bait and minnows were the baits of choice this week.

While you are at beautiful Lake Fork make sure to stop into Lake Fork Marina and check out the latest in tackle for those trophy Lake Fork Bass and Crappie. They have the latest in Crappie jigs and soft plastics for the Bass. Don’t forget to check out the new Ardent Apex reels. What a buy especially if they are matched with the Denny Brauer Signature rods.

The Bass Spawn is in full swing. I still have a few days open for guided trips in April for spawning Bass. So give us a call (Toll free) 1-888-454-7037 or E-mail us at: [email protected] Have a great fishing week.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 1)

GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.67 feet above pool. Lake Fork flood gates are open which can make the bite tough. The best bite has been on shaky heads and Carolina rigs on main lake points and secondary points in 5-8 feet of water. Squarebill crankbaits are catching a few in the same areas. Frog bite is slow over flooded grass. Yum dingers are fair at the edge of the grass 2-4 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. The crappie fishing on Lake Fork has been great this week if you find the right areas and patterns to fish. The spawn is coming to an end and the black crappie are beginning to load up on certain bridges and docks. If you search you can find some big schools of keeper size black crappie. We have had to battle heavy rains, terrible winds and even thunderstorms lately a lot. Hopefully we will see more stable weather conditions over the next few weeks. You can still find some larger white crappie on timber in 10-22ft. Also seeing some white crappie loading up on certain brush in some areas close to where they spawned. Jigs and minnows are both producing well right now and should stay the same until around June or July. Catfishing is still hot on Lake Fork. Baited holes in 12-20ft along creek channels are doing great for channel cats. Use cattle cubes or sour grain to get them to hold in one spot. Then use any prepared catfish bait or cut shad to load the boat with eater sized catfish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
