Lake Fork Fishing Report for May 11, 2015

A great week on beautiful Lake Fork! We continued to have rain through the week here which brought the lake to a ½ inch above full pool. The water temperatures ranged from 75 to 78 degrees with the water clarity being heavily stained over the whole lake. The Bass fishing was good all week. The top water bite was really good all week using the Strike King KVD Sexy frogs and Norman buzz baits. The back-up approach to catching the Bass was the good old Carolina rig. We caught several good fish in 12 to 14 foot of water off the main lake points using the Carolina rigged Zoom Baby Brush Hogs and the Lake Fork Trophy Lures Hyper Stick. The best colors were June bug or black with blue flake.

The White Bass have gone crazy this week. Joe Spaits Flashtail ½ ounce spoon in the white with black strip pattern really worked great. The White Bass have started to relocate to main lake brush piles and isolated structure. 19 to 22 foot was the best water depth to look for.

The Crappie fishing was also pretty good this week. The straight minnow rig or a white with chartreuse tail crappie jig tipped with a Crappie minnow worked the best. 18 to 20 foot of water over brush piles will tend to get you your limit.

The Catfish have once again started to move to the deeper water. Look for them in 25 foot or deeper using Punch bait and a #6 treble hook. Baiting the holes also is very effective.

Lake Fork Marina has a good selection of Strike King frogs and Joe Spaits Flashtail spoons. So while you are here at Lake Fork, stop in and see the friendly staff and pick up the Strike King products and a snack to hit the water with.

The Bass are starting to get into their Summer time patterns. So if you need some help getting ready for a tournament of just want a guided trip for Bass, White Bass or Crappie, give us a call here at: (903) 413-6919 or E-mail at: [email protected]. Have a safe fishing week.

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 1)

GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.67 feet above pool. Lake Fork flood gates are open which can make the bite tough. The best bite has been on shaky heads and Carolina rigs on main lake points and secondary points in 5-8 feet of water. Squarebill crankbaits are catching a few in the same areas. Frog bite is slow over flooded grass. Yum dingers are fair at the edge of the grass 2-4 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. The crappie fishing on Lake Fork has been great this week if you find the right areas and patterns to fish. The spawn is coming to an end and the black crappie are beginning to load up on certain bridges and docks. If you search you can find some big schools of keeper size black crappie. We have had to battle heavy rains, terrible winds and even thunderstorms lately a lot. Hopefully we will see more stable weather conditions over the next few weeks. You can still find some larger white crappie on timber in 10-22ft. Also seeing some white crappie loading up on certain brush in some areas close to where they spawned. Jigs and minnows are both producing well right now and should stay the same until around June or July. Catfishing is still hot on Lake Fork. Baited holes in 12-20ft along creek channels are doing great for channel cats. Use cattle cubes or sour grain to get them to hold in one spot. Then use any prepared catfish bait or cut shad to load the boat with eater sized catfish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
