Lake Fork Anglers 5th Thursday Results From July 29

Like all of our Thursday daytime tournaments we try to give our members something different and unusual on three 5th Thursdays through out the year. Today was our annual team tournament. In this case it is a 5 fish limit paying 4 places with 2 lunker payouts and added money from the treasury. The team members are made up starting with the boater that is 1st on the AOY race with the co-angler who is at the bottom of their AOY race and progressing down the list until all are seated.

So what we are scoring is the best 5 fish 10" and longer. As with all of our tournaments the fish are caught, measured, recorded, pictures and then released. Slots count.

  1. First Place Team goes to Don Overstreet (first tournament back from knee replacement surgery) and partner Bill Ailes both from Sulphur Springs with 5 for 15.70 LB with the boater lunker of  6.89 LB.
  2. Second Place went to Dennis Bubinas and Tom Whitrock both from Lake Fork with 5 for 15.27 LB with  Co-Angler Lunker (Tie) for 4.31 LB.
  3. Third Place went to Charlie Abresch of Hawkins and Scott Powell of Lake Fork with 5 fish for 11.93 LB and a co-angler lunker (tie) for 4.31 LB.
  4. Fourth Place Galen Smith of Alba and Jimmy Bright of Frisco with 5 fish for 11.25 LB. with a 3.62 LB lunker.

58 fish were caught and there were no skunks.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 12)

GOOD. Water Stained; 57 degrees; 0.10 feet below pool. Water temperature is 54-59 degrees in most places. Shallow bite is good all over the lake with chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, senkos, and flukes are very good in 1-3 feet. Squarebill crankbaits are good in 2-4 feet on flats and near ditches. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Catching small bass shallow with baitfish streamers. Larger females will become more active as warm days continue around structure and brush. The crappie should be moving shallow and Wooly buggers can be a good choice. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Lake Fork water temperatures are headed upward, hopefully for good this week. There are tons of prespawn crappie and some active spawning fish. You can find fish shallow in the afternoons and that should get better all day long this week. Lots of fish are still to be found in the 6-20 feet range. This week there were numbers of roaming crappie not relating to structure. Hand tied jigs, soft plastics and minnows all will work now if you get the bait close to the fish. Recent rains still have the north ends of the lake muddy or stained, so you need to focus on getting bait right on fish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
