Lake Fork Fishing Report for June 24, 2019

What a crazy week here at Lake Fork. We had several thunderstorms with more than 5 inches of rain, which brought the lake to over full pool conditions. That meant they opened all five gates on the dam. The water clarity is still stained and the water temperatures remained in the lower 80’s. The Bass fishing was great the first part of the week with numerous Bass being caught on Carolina rigs, Strike King XD10’s and XD8’s, and of course the wacky worms. The best color Strike King XD 10 is the chartreuse with blue back and the best color of the XD 8 was the sexy shad. We fished them off main lake points in the south part of the lake and in creek sub points. You will get hung up with deep crank baits so invest in a good bait knocker with good nylon rope on it. The Carolina rig is still the go to rig in deep water. We continued to use Bubba Bait’s watermelon/candy/red Boss Hog on our Carolina rigs. We found isolated brush piles were the best place to fish the Carolina rig. My favorite way to catch the Bass here at Lake Fork is by using the Zoom chartreuse/pumpkin trick worm rigged wacky style around docks and Hydrilla. Do not forget to put a nail in the head of the trick worm.

The Crappie fishing was good this week. The Bubba’s Bait chartreuse 1/8 ounce Crappie jig continued to be the go to jig to constantly catch good Crappie. Isolated brush piles were the best place to find the Crappie. The bridge fishing is still slow.
The White Bass fishing is still very good. Joe Spaits chrome and chartreuse ½- ounce Flashtail jigging spoon is the best way to catch them. They are still on most of the main lake humps.

The Catfish anglers were doing well until the high water on Friday. Punch bait was the go to bait around brush piles and isolate baited trees.
On our equipment list, this week was our Ranger Z520c powered by a Mercury 250 Pro XS, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, Stren line, Eagle Claw hooks,

Strike King hard baits, Buddy’s Custom Baits, Zoom soft plastics and Bubba’s Crappie jigs.

Here at J & M Guide Service we have one day left open in June for guided Bass trips. Give us a call at (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us at [email protected].

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 9)

GOOD. Water Stained; 82 degrees; 0.23 feet above pool. Fork : Top waters early around pond weed and grass with frogs and poppers still working . Mid morning chatter baits on the outside edge of grass in 3-5 ft is good as well as shaky heads . Best bite is Carolina rigs off shore on points , road beds and humps in 12-25 ft . Big worms and flukes are good . Deep Cranks are good over the same area when the fish are suspending 19-23 ft . Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Lily fields are filling in, hydrilla and milfoil are reaching for the surface. Fish this type of cover at mid day when bass are seeking cover. Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation early and late. Small fish patterns like a dock knocker are producing bass and crappie shallow near grass. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Lake Fork crappie fishing has been super up and down this past week. The fish are stacked up on brush piles, lay downs, tire reefs and some trees. The bite is the tricky part. Some days the bite is good and the bigger fish show up. Some days the bite is just off and the short fish show up. Seems like the bite may be better on days we have a little breeze. If the winds are calm the bite is very slow. Minnows will get some bites but small 1/32nd ounce hand tied jigs with small bodies and tails are working well on fish that don’t want to bite. Best depths have been 18-13ft with most fish suspended on trees and loaded in the brush. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
