LAKE FORK WEEKLY FISHING REPORT

FROM: J & M Guide Service

DATES: 9 -15 August 2020

Wow what hot week this has been. Water temperatures are in the lower 90’s.
The water clarity is good in the lower lake areas and still stained in the upper
creeks. As the water levels continue to drop due to natural summertime
vaporization, more of our friendly stumps are starting to show up. Please don’t
try to cut the corners of creeks and the old forest area on the Lake Fork creek
side. The Bass fishing has been very slow. The drop shot rig and the Carolina rig
were the best two was to coax the warm weather Bass into biting. On the split
shot we have been nose hooking a Zoom pearl white Fluke about a 12-inches off
the bottom. On the Carolina rig we have using Buddy’s Custom Baits
watermelon/candy/red Boss Hogg. Using either technique you have to move the
bait extremely slow. Fish 18 to 26 foot of water around old tree lines.

The Crappie fishing has really slowed down this week. Minnows are still your best
bet to put a few Crappies in the boat. We have had some success with Bubba’s
Bait white with an orange tail and our old favorite root beer 1/8-ounce crappie
jigs tipped with a minnow.

The White Bass were on strike this week. Very few were caught this week.

The Catfish anglers were having a good week. Minnows were on the top of the
Catfish’s menu. They have taken up residence in 24 to 26 foot of water over
isolated brush piles.

On our equipment list this week is our Ranger 520c powered by a Mercury 250
Pro XS from Nichols Marine in Longview, TX, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, Stren
line, Strike King hard baits, Bubba’s Baits Crappie Jigs, Buddy’s Custom Baits from
here at Lake Fork, X-VIII Custom Baits and Zoom soft plastics.

Here at J & M Guide Service we are taking reservations for guided Bass trips in
September, October and November. Give us a call at (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us
at [email protected]. Have a safe fishing week and stay hydrated.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
