LAKE FORK WEEKLY FISHING REPORT

FROM: J & M Guide Service

DATES: 7 – 13 September 2020

It was a great week to fish Lake Fork. The water temperatures fell 4 degrees to
86. The water clarity remained stained in the upper creeks and a great color for
Bass fishing in the main lake. Needless to say, the Bass fishing is picking up. This
week the Strike King KVD 1.5 in the gizzard color pattern was the best bait to use.
The Bass were feeding on shad all day and that made the KVD 1.5 a great bait of
choice. When the KVD 1.5 crankbait slows down, go find some grass. We fished
the Zoom chartreuse/pumpkin trick worm rigged wacky style in the grass. Don’t
forget to put a nail in the head of the trick worm. One other pattern that worked
is by using a chartreuse/pumpkin Zoom finesse worm rigged on a drop shot rig.
Fish it just outside of the weed lines in 4 to 6 foot of water.

The Crappie bite remained slow this week. What few Crappies that caught were
caught on a minnow rig in 18 to 20 foot of water around isolated brush piles. You
might try a Bubba’s Bait White with an orange tail. It picked up a few!

The Catfish anglers were still having success this week. The 20-foot-deep brush
piles were on fire and the ole fashion minnow rig worked the best. There were
reports that Punch bait was working old isolated trees that were baited.

On our equipment list this week is our Ranger 520c powered by a Mercury 250
Pro XS from Nichols Marine in Longview, TX, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, Stren
line, Strike King hard baits, Bubba’s Baits Crappie Jigs, Buddy’s Custom Baits from
here at Lake Fork, X-VIII Custom Baits and Zoom soft plastics.

The Big Bass Splash is here this week, good luck to all. Here at J & M Guide
Service we are looking forward to the Berkley Bass Tournament and of course to
great fall Bass fishing here a Lake Fork. We have several dates open for guided
Bass trips in October, November and December so give us a call at (903) 413-6919
or E-mail us at [email protected]. Have a safe fishing week.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
