Lake Fork Fishing Report 10/23/16

Lake Fork : The Bass fishing was very good for us this week at Lake Fork. Again we averaged 25-50 Bass per day and the largest Bass for the week weighed a little over 6 lbs. We fished a couple of other lakes as well this week and caught a lot of fat healthy Bass in the 3-5 lb range. Unless something happens due to a change in the weather, the Bass fishing is going to be good for some time now. We were able to catch a lot of very nice Bass using 1/4 oz Shakey Heads and C Rigs fishing Zoom Super Flukes and Baby Brush Hogs. The best color this week for us was Green Pumpkin and most of the larger fish were caught in 16 feet of water.

The water temperature was in the Mid 70's and it's just about perfect to get the fish active and aggressive chasing the bait fish. The water clarity was off color a little this week and was stained in some areas and clearing up in others. The water level today is 400.72 or 90% full and is still slowly falling.

The Crappie are still biting good when fishing over heavy brush in 21-24 feet of water and it's not to tough catching limit of Crappie right now. 1/4 oz Jigs are working great!

The Cat fishing is doing good and should remain good until we start getting some hard cold fronts that will start dropping the water temperature.

I have guides that can put you on the Bass, Crappie or Catfish and right now is the time to go and enjoy this great Fall weather. Contact me to 214.236.3320 or email us at [email protected] to schedule a fishing trip today.

Until the next report, good luck and great fishing!

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 1)

GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.67 feet above pool. Lake Fork flood gates are open which can make the bite tough. The best bite has been on shaky heads and Carolina rigs on main lake points and secondary points in 5-8 feet of water. Squarebill crankbaits are catching a few in the same areas. Frog bite is slow over flooded grass. Yum dingers are fair at the edge of the grass 2-4 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. The crappie fishing on Lake Fork has been great this week if you find the right areas and patterns to fish. The spawn is coming to an end and the black crappie are beginning to load up on certain bridges and docks. If you search you can find some big schools of keeper size black crappie. We have had to battle heavy rains, terrible winds and even thunderstorms lately a lot. Hopefully we will see more stable weather conditions over the next few weeks. You can still find some larger white crappie on timber in 10-22ft. Also seeing some white crappie loading up on certain brush in some areas close to where they spawned. Jigs and minnows are both producing well right now and should stay the same until around June or July. Catfishing is still hot on Lake Fork. Baited holes in 12-20ft along creek channels are doing great for channel cats. Use cattle cubes or sour grain to get them to hold in one spot. Then use any prepared catfish bait or cut shad to load the boat with eater sized catfish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
