Lake Fork Fishing Report for 25 February - 3 March 2013

This week was filled with windy cold days. Water temperatures remained 52.5 to 55.3 degrees depending where in the lake you were at. The water clarity was clear in the south part of the lake and stained in the creeks. The red/orange rattle trap and the chartreuse and white chatter bait were the fish producers. The better fish were caught on the chatter bait. The fish were still hanging around wood in 3 to 4 foot of water. We found the smaller chartreuse trailer seemed to work the best. Crappie fisherman, start rejoicing! The Crappie have start a slow migration up into the creeks. They can be found on trash (wood) piles in 10 to 12 foot of water. Some really nice Crappie were caught on Crappie jigs tipped with small minnows. Lake Fork Marina is well stocked with Crappie jigs and has great live minnows. Be sure to stock up before heading out on the water. The White Bass fishing slowed down a little this week, but when you were able to stay out on the main lake you still could catch your limit. The better fish were in 22 to 24 foot of water on creek bends. The Barr Fish colored Joe's 1/2 ounce Flutter Spoon was still the bait of choice. The Catfish fishing is also starting to heat up. Punch Bait is still at the top of their menus. The better Catfish were caught in 14 to 18 foot of water on baited holes. The #6 treble hook with a 1/2 ounce sinker was still the rig of choice. While you are at Lake Fork, make sure you stop into Lake Fork Marina and chat with Cameron and his crew. They have the latest in tackle, live bait and great snacks. If you want a great deal on a Ranger Boat, make sure you stop by Nichols Marine in Longview, TX. They not only have great prices, but they have a 5 star service department. With the Bass spawn approaching, we are booking great trips here on Lake Fork. Give us a call at Toll Free: 1-888-454-7037. Have a great fishing week and make sure you wear your life jacket while that big motor is running. J & M Guide Service John Morris E-mail: [email protected]

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
