Lake Fork Fishing Report for 4th Quarter, 2013

This year has really flown by!! Here we are already half way through October and able to enjoy some good bass fishing along the grass lines that started showing up this year. Looking back in 2013, Lake Fork produced 4 bass over 13 lbs for the Share a Lunker program. A 16, 15, 14, & a 13 pounder were all brought in for the 2013 season, which runs from October 2012 through April 2013. Our new Lunker season just started October 1st and no entries have come in yet. This past spring, pre spawn was in March, as it is normally but a cold snap in April delayed the spawn by about 2 weeks and was very late all around the lake. The hydrilla started showing up this spring in Burch Creek in the west arm and Glade, Running, and Coffee Creeks in the east arm which we have not seen for 4 years. The bass and shad are now relating to the grass and the frog fishing has made a strong come back. The bad news is, the lake is still almost 6 ft low and winter is normally not the season we get a lot or rain to produce the run off we need to bring the lake level up. I will be attending and have a booth set up at two boat shows this coming year. I will be at the Dallas show Jan.31st - Feb 9th and the Tulsa show Feb 14 - 16 booth number 465. So if you are in the area come by and lets talk fishing or book your 2014 trip. I am booking fall 2013 trips now so if interested in some good fall fishing send me an email to [email protected] or visit my web site www.lakeforktrophybass.com for details about booking a trip. I have already booked some spring dates, so the sooner you are able to book your trip the better to insure you get the date you are looking for. Looking towards 2014 the March rattletrap fishing should be very good if the grass remains and will be throwing swim baits & crank baits early to catch those suspended females looking for the spawning areas. Also crappie trips starting in May through December. I hope everyone has a great holiday season and look forward to spending time on the lake with you. Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
