Lake Fork Fishing Report for August 14 2013

The hot weather continues and the water temperatures continue to be 88 to 90 degrees. The lake is trying to turn over which means the water clarity is stained. The Bass bite remained pretty constant and good fish were being caught all over the lake. We found the baits of choice for Bass still have not changed much over the last two to three weeks. We did however catch some good quality fish on a 3/16 ounce shaky head jigs with a watermelon candy Baby Brush Hog and as the water clarity got more stained we changed the Baby brush Hog color to green pumpkin and dyed the tails chartreuse. We also found 4 to 12 foot of water was a good water depth to start in from daylight to around 8:00 AM. Around 8:00 AM we moved into water depths of 26 to 32 feet of water using a Carolina rigged Baby Brush Hog and you guessed it, Tim Spaits chrome and chartreuse Flutter Spoon. Once again the trick of catching the Largemouth Bass is keeping the spoon near the bottom. If you don't you will be catching White Bass all day long. The Crappie fishing continued to be slow this week. I blamed two things; one, was the warm water temperatures and second, was the lake starting to turn over. The bridge of choice was the 515 east, this week. Small chartreuse/pink Crappie jigs tipped with minnows were the best bait for the week. The White Bass were still eating Joe Spaits chrome/chartreuse flutter spoon as soon as you put it in the water. The best water depth was 28 to 32 foot of water on sharp main lake points and around the two 515 bridges. The Bream bite remained really good this week. Crickets were still on top of their menu. The kid's summer vacation is about over, so hurry and "take a child fishing". Lake Fork Marina has plenty of crickets and minnows to feed those large Lake Fork Crappie and Bream. They also have a great selection of Strike King Crankbaits and Joe Spaits spoons. Stop in and stock up on the latest tackle and don't forget to pick up lots of water to stay hydrated with. Well it wouldn't be fishing without thinking about running down Lake Fork in a brand new Ranger Bass Boat from Nichols Marine in Longview, TX. The boat of the week is a new raspberry mist Ranger Z522, powered by a Yamaha 250 SHO. This Ranger has a Minnkota 101 Fortrex trolling motor, Lowrance HDS 8 in the console, a HDS 5 in the bow with structure scan, Pro air, Ranger cover and much more. Stop in and see it today! We are busy getting taking reservations for the great fall fishing here at beautiful Lake Fork, TX. We are taking reservations for September and October especially for those who are getting ready for the Big Bass Splash and the Berkley Tournaments. So give us a call Toll Free: 1-888-454-7037 or E-mail us at: [email protected]. Be safe and wear that life vest if the big motor is running. See you on the water. Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
