Lake Fork Fishing Report for August 29 2013

This week we saw the air temperatures remain in the mid to upper 90's which meant the water temperatures rose back to the upper 80's and low 90's. The main feeder creeks like Burch and Garrett were the warmest water temperatures at 91 to 92 degrees. The lake level also dropped to 5.6 vertical and the lake is starting to clear a little from the lake turning over. I am starting to see more and more stumps every day. The bass fishing remained fair to good. The bait of choice was still the Zoom Mag II worm in the blue fleck color, Texas rigged. The bite pattern did change a little this week. We found our better fish being caught in 4 to 10 foot of water holding close to small stumps. We continued to use the Denny Brauer Worm rod coupled with the Ardent Edge Tournament Reel for great hook sets on those hard to catch Lake Fork Bass. The Crappie fishing was still very slow this week. The straight minnow rig worked the best. The White Bass fishing also had slowed down this week. Joe Spaits chrome/chartreuse flutter still was the best bait to use. The Catfish went on a diet this week. A few Catfish were being taken on trout lines using cut bait. Lake Fork Marina is the best place to buy the minnows and has the best selection of Joe Spaits spoons. Their hotel also has the cleanest rooms on the lake if you need a place to stay here on beautiful Lake Fork. Have you had a chance to check out the 2013 Stratos Bass boats? You need to stop into Nichols Marine in Longview, Texas and check out their selection of Stratos Boats. In particular, check out the 2013 Stratos 189VLO with a Mercury 150 Pro XS Optimax, Lowrance 5X fish finder, 2 bank charger and a Minnkota Max 70 foot control trolling motor. It is on a single axle trailer with brakes. What a great package! Here at J & M Guide Service we are offering a great opportunity to get ready for the McDonalds Big Bass Splash or Berkley Bass Tournament. We still have a few dates open for guided fishing trips to help you get ready for the big Bass tournaments. So give a call here, Toll Free: 1-888-454-7036 or E-mail us at: [email protected]. Have a great fishing week and look out for the stumps. John Morris (J & M Guide Service)

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
