Lake Fork Fishing Report for February 10 , 2018

It was great to back to work here at beautiful Lake Fork, TX. It has been a very cold start to the year with water temperatures still in the lower fifties and the water clarity is really good. The Bass fishing is fare using black and blue jigs, chartreuse and white chatter baits and Rayburn red rattle traps. This week our fish were caught in 5 to 12 feet of water. No matter what bait you choose make sure you run or move it very slowly. On our Black and Blue jigs, we used the NetBait black/blue PACA Craw as a trailer. Cut about an inch off of the tail of the PACA Craw then thread it onto the hook of the jig. Works great! On the chatter bait, we used a Smash-Tech Custom Baits 3 and 1/2 Smash Tail Jr. as a trailer. It gives the chatter bait great vibration and moves a lot of water. On our equipment list this week was our Ranger 520c powered by a Mercury Pro XS 250, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, Stren line, Strike King jigs, Smash-Tech and NetBait soft plastics.

The Crappie fishing was good this week. The Crappie are stacked up around the bridges. Bubba’s Baits 1/8 ounce white with an orange tail Crappie jig is still working well. When the Crappies stop biting the jig, tip it with a minnow. Works every time!

The White Bass are one of two places. They are either in 40 foot of water or around the bridges with the Crappie. Take your time and you will find some good White Bass in both places. Bubba’s Bait Crappie jigs works the best.

The Catfish anglers are also having success this Spring. Look for them in 18 to 24 foot of water over isolated brush pile and old trees. Cut bait work the best this week.

The Bass Spawn is just around the corner. I am taking bookings for guided Bass trips for March, April and May. Give us a call at (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us at [email protected]. Stay warm fishing this week.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 14)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.40 feet above pool. Bass are fair on points with and without spawning shad early morning. When there is wind it’s better. Frog bite is fair in shallow grass and pond weed. Bass are staging in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points hitting Carolina rigs, and XD 5-6. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
