Lake Fork Fishing Report for July 30 2013

We had an extremely good week this week. The water temperature stabilized at 85 to 86 degrees with the help of an 1 1/2 inch of rain Friday evening. The top water bite for Largemouth Bass was great between 5:45 and 7:30. The Heddon Zara Spook in Shad G Finish was the bait of choice. Once the sun got up over the trees around 08:00 we went to Carolina rigged Zoom Baby Brush Hogs. It was noted that watermelon/candy was the best color to use. Make sure you dye the tails chartreuse. That bite lasted until around 10:00. Then we moved to deep open water. Once again Joe Spaits flutter spoon out produce anything in the tackle box. Yes, the chrome with the chartreuse stripe was the best Bass producer. This week we found the better fish in 28 to 30 feet of water, around sharp ledges on creek bends. The trick for Largemouth Bass with the spoon is keeping it on the bottom! If you don't, you will find yourself taking a lot of Sand (White) Bass off your hook. The Crappie fishing was very slow this week. What a difference a week makes. Very lively minnows worked the best around the 515 West Bridge and old road bed. The White Bass are going crazy most of the day. Joe Spaits flutter spoon caught the White Bass all day long. Again, chrome with chartreuse was the best color to use. You can catch them in 4 to 6 feet of water from sunrise to about 8:30, then chase them out to 30 to 32 foot of water. Swimming the spoon was the best technique. The Catfish were still biting well. Cut bait and liver were the bait of choice this week. The better eating Catfish came out of 22 to 24 foot of water around baited wood piles. The Bream bite was still on this week. The kids are having a ball drowning crickets and catching some really good Bream. So Dad's and Mom's take the kids fishing! If you need some really good lively minnows and great crickets, stop into Lake Fork Marina and pick up them up. They also have a great selection of Joe Spaits spoons and the latest information on what is happening on the lake. Please pick up some water and don't get dehydrated. If you are still looking for a Bass boat to enjoy on your vacation. You need to stop into Nichols Marine in Longview, TX and check out the 2013 Z118 with the Mercury 150Pro XS Optimax. It is red mist/platinum mist. A really beautiful boat! It also comes with a Motorguide FW75 trolling motor, Lowrance Elite 5 in the dash and trailer brakes. Don't miss this one. The 2013 models are going fast. We are still booking guided fishing trips for the fall. Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
