Lake Fork Fishing Report for June 12, 2014

It was a windy week here at Lake Fork. The water temperatures rose to the 80 degree mark and the water clarity is good. The Bass fishing was fair to good. Numerous good fish from seven to ten pounds were caught. The top water bite was great with buzz baits and Zara Spooks. We had a 10.1 pound Bass on Sunday morning on a white buzz bait. We were using the new Ardent Frog/Buzz bait Denny Brauer rod, coupled with an Ardent Apex Tournament 6.5 to 1 reel. Great combo! The Bass are settling in to their summer time patterns. Baits like trick worms, 7 to 10 inch worms and small crankbaits worked the best. The watermelon/red was the best worm colors and the KVD 1.5 and 2.5 continued to be the best crankbaits.

The White Bass fishing continued to be good. Jigging spoons and Joe Spaits flutter spoon worked well. 1/8 ounce cinnamon/blue crappie jigs tipped with large minnows also worked really well. The best water depth was 24 feet on main lake humps and old road beds.

Crappie fishing was fair this week. With the wind it was hard to stay on main lake brush piles and bridges. Cinnamon/blue Crappie jigs and straight minnow rigs worked the best. The best water depth was 22 to 24 feet.

The Catfish fishermen were having a lot of fun in 20 foot of water on baited holes. Punch bait continues to be the bait of choice.

While you are here at Lake Fork make sure you stop into Lake Fork Marina and check out their Strike King Crankbaits. They also have a good selection of Crappie jigs. Don’t forget to pick up some water to stay hydrated with. Summer is here!

I will be on vacation until the 4th of July. The next report will be on the following week. Be a line watcher and make sure you wear those life jackets if your big motor is running.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
