Lake Fork Fishing Report for June 3, 2014

What a great week to fish beautiful Lake Fork! The water temperatures remained around the 76 degree range and the water clarity was getting better all over the lake. Numerous fish in the 6 to 9 pound range were caught on DD22’s, KVD 1.5 and 2.5’s, and my old favorite a J & M Jig. You can’t beat the post spawn time of the year to catch big fish on a jig. What made it even more fun was catching the jig fish on an Ardent Denny Brauer Signature Football Jig Rod, coupled up with an Ardent Apex Tournament reel. What fun! Natural shad color was the best color to us on the DD22’s, KVD 1.5 and 2.5’s. The top water bite was also great in the mornings. The white buzz bait worked best from 05:30 to 7:30 in the morning and between 8:00 and 9:00 in the evening.

The White Bass fishing was also very good. They were also caught on DD 22’s (pearl/green back and smoke colors), and Alabama rigs. You need to use braided line on the Alabama rigs because you can catch three to four White Bass at a time.

Crappie fishing remained good this week. We caught our better Crappie in 20 foot of water over brush piles using a blue/white Crappie jig tipped with a minnow.

The Catfish fishing also was very good this week. Jell-O bait and punch bait were the best baits to use in 22 to 24 foot of water over baited holes.

While you are at Lake Fork make sure that you check out Lake Fork Marina. They have a good selection on DD 22’s, Strike King DVD 1.5, XD6 and XD10’s. Plus, check out the Ardent Rod and reel selection.

For all of you fishermen that are getting ready for the Skeeter Tournament, I have a couple of days open for guided fishing trips to get ready for the tournament. Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
