Lake Fork Fishing Report for March 12, 2018

It was a much better week for fishing here at Lake Fork. The water is still badly stained but the water temperatures are starting to warm up into the lower 60’s. There was several fish caught over 10 pounds and one over 13 pounds this week. For those who like to fish a plastic lizard, I have some great news for you. I have found the best lizard that I have seen since Zoom brought the 8-inch lizard. This new lizard is made by Buddy’s Custom Baits here at Lake Fork. This lizard has a larger head and a thicker body with ribs to move more water without moving the bait very much. This lizard is a full 8-inchs long, which means that you can dye at least an inch and a half of the tail chartreuse. The colors that I tested were watermelon candy red and Texas smoke. They both catch fish! Again, fish it slow. The other baits that we used were the Lake Fork Trophy Lures black and blue Hyper Sticks and chartreuse/white/orange spinner bait. A great week of fishing! On our equipment list this week was our Ranger 520c powered by a Mercury 250X, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia reels, Stren line, Buddy’s Custom Baits, and Lake Fork Trophy Lures Hyper Sticks.

The Crappie fishing was slow this week. The best way to catch them was by using a black and chartreuse crappie jigs in 18 foot of water over brush piles in the mouth of creeks.

The White Bass starting to move up the creeks. Look for the in 12 to 14 foot of water. Black and chartreuse Crappie jigs tipped with minnows were the baits of choice for us.

With the Bass spawn here, we are taking reservations for guided Bass trips for the rest of March and April. Give us a call at (903) 413-6919 or E-mails us at [email protected]. Have a safe fishing.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 14)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.40 feet above pool. Bass are fair on points with and without spawning shad early morning. When there is wind it’s better. Frog bite is fair in shallow grass and pond weed. Bass are staging in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points hitting Carolina rigs, and XD 5-6. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
