Lake Fork Fishing Report for May 21 2013

Well we just went right into summer conditions. We had water temperatures are from 75 to 78 degrees. The water remained stained in the upper creeks. The main lake below the 515 bridge was starting to clear up. Numerous Bass are still being caught on main lake points using crankbaits such as the Strike King KVD 1.5 and 2.5 in the chartreuse belly and black top pattern. They wanted an erratic stop and go retrieve. We also found the Carolina rigged Zoom Baby Brush Hog worked well. Watermelon/red color worked the best. Hint/hint; make sure you dye the tails of the Brush Hog chartreuse. The top water bite is really coming on. The rattling Zara Spook seamed to be most fishermen's choice. However, don't forget about my ole favorite choice, the chug bug. Chrome and black worked the best. The Crappie fishermen were doing well this week. The Crappie has started settling to their summer pattern. There are being taken in 20 to 22 feet of water on structure and around both 515 bridges. We found that the very small Crappie jig seemed to work the best. White and silver colored jigs seemed to work the best. The White Bass are everywhere! You can catch a limit in an hour on points using little crankbaits or move into 24 to 30 feet and catch a limit using Joe's flutter Spoon. Chartreuse and chrome worked the best. If you are are in hurry, pick up an Alabama rig and you can catch two or three White Bass at a time. I caution you might get a very large Bass mixed in with the White Bass. Make sure you throw the Alabama rig using braided line. The Catfish fishermen enjoyed another good week. Numerous Catfish are being taken in 12 to 18 foot of water. The bait of choice is still punch bait, however several nice Catfish are being taken on cut bait. You need minnows? Lake Fork Marina has them. You need crankbaits? Lake Fork Marina has them. Bottom line Lake Fork Marina has all your fishing needs from Bass baits to soft drinks including outer apparel. So stop by and check them out while you are at beautiful Lake Fork. We still have a few openings for guided Bass and White Bass trips in June and July. If you need help with locating Bass for the upcoming Skeeter or McDonald tournaments, give us a call Toll Free: 1-888-454-7037 or E-mail us at: [email protected]. Have a safe fishing week and make sure you wear your life vest while that big motor is running. J & M Guide Service John Morris

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
