Lake Fork Fishing Report for May 28, 2014

It was a great week of fishing here beautiful Lake Fork. The winds ranged from 5 to 20 miles an hour and the water temperatures ranged from 74 to 78 degrees. The water clarity was stained but starting to clear, especially at the southern end of the lake. The deep bite was still very good with the Strike King XD10 and XD6. We also caught several on an Alabama Rig and a Carolina Rig using a Baby Brush Hog. One thing we really noticed is the summer plastic worm bite is really coming on. We found several good fish being caught on 6 to 8 drops near creek channel bends with 8inch worms and Carolina rigged Baby Brush Hogs. The main color of worms and Brush Hogs that we used this week was watermelon/red and we dyed the tails chartreuse. “Something’s never change here at Lake Fork”! The rods and reels that we used this week continued to be made by Ardent. As I continue use the Ardent Apex reel, it amazes me that the beating it will take especially throwing the Strike King XD 10 in 20 to 30 foot of water. Great Reels!

The White Bass are starting to settle into their summer time feeding patterns. We caught them on Alabama rigs and jigging slabs in 20 to 24 foot of water. I did change my color of spinner on the Alabama rig back to chrome (hint – hint).

This week we noticed we had better luck on the Crappies on remote brush piles. The bridge fishing was slow for us. The best way we found to catch them was on a straight minnow rig. You will catch a few White Bass also.

The Catfishing was fair this week. A lot of small Catfish were caught using Punch bait in 20 foot of water.

While here at Lake Fork, make sure you stop into Lake Fork Marina and check out their large selection of Strike King XD 10 crankbaits baits. Make sure you check out the Ardent reel and rods.

We have a few days open for guided fishing trip for those of you getting ready for the Skeeter Bass Tournament coming up in June. The Dates for the tournament are June 13th, 14th and the 15th. Give us a call Toll Free 1-888-454-7037 or E-mail us at [email protected] Keep a tight line!

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
