Lake Fork Fishing Report for May 30, 2013

What a week to fish at beautiful Lake Fork, TX. The fishing was really great. The water temperatures ranged from 75 to 80 degrees and the water clarity continued to improve. The water clarity was still stained in the north creeks but was really starting to clear up in the southern part of the lake. The early morning bite consisted of good top water action from daylight to 8:30 using rattling Zara Spooks. Around 8:30 in the morning it was time to get out the ole crankbaits and move into 4 to 10 foot of water, off of long main lake points. The bait of choice was still the KVD 1.5 in the standard shad color. Around 12:30 we moved to main lake sub points and got out the Carolina rigs. We continued to use Zoom Baby Brush Hogs on the Carolina rigs and yes the favorite color was still watermelon/candy and watermelon/red. The Crappie fishermen were still doing well this week. The better crappie were being taken out of 20 to 22 foot of water on small Crappie jigs tipped with small minnows. One thing to note they were also being taken on small jigging spoons. When using the jigging spoon, make sure you get that spoon all the way to the bottom before you start your vertical jigging motion. Your jigging motion should not be more than one to two feet at a time and very slow. The White Bass are still on a feeding frenzy. They will eat anything chrome or chartreuse. They really like Joe's flutter spoon. The best water death is 24 feet. You can fill your limit in less than in an hour, plus they are good eating. Oh yes, mixed in with the White Bass are the 7 to 8 pound Largemouth Bass. Have fun. The Catfishing still remained good. A lot of good Catfish were still being caught in 20 foot of water over baited holes. Get the corn mesh sacks folks. The best bait this was still cut bait. Punch bait also worked well. By way, numerous of good 2 to three pound Catfish were caught with jigging spoon and flutter spoons in 22 to 24 of water over deep trash piles. Looking for the best large water fishing boat? Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
