Lake Fork Fishing Report for November 14, 2013

This week the cool air temperatures drove the water temperatures down into low to mid 60's. That set the Largemouth Bass into a feeding frenzy. They started feeding morning, noon and night, eating large amounts of minnows, small White Bass and small Yellow Bass. They also started pounding small crankbaits such a shad colored KVD 1.5's and chrome/black rattle traps. In the early morning around 07:00 to 08:00 and in the evenings around 4:30 to 5:00 the Bass were schooling on main lake points. The schoolers' could be caught on top water Chugbugs and 1/2 ounce Rattletraps. When things slowed down in the afternoon, we hit the grass lines with 3/16 ounce shaky head jigs with watermelon/candy Zoom Baby Brush Hog's, don't forget to dye the tails chartreuse. The key to this pattern is to slow down. The Bass wanted the Baby Brush Hog moved very slowly and in an erratic motion. All of the rods and reels used this week were Ardent Edge reels and Ardent Denny Brauer Pro Series rods, a deadly combination with great hooking power. The Crappie fishing continues to be good here at Lake Fork. The better Crappie's continued to be caught on small minnows on main lake trash piles. A few Crappies' are starting to show up on the main lake bridges again. We saw numerous White Bass schooling this week. The best time to catch them schooling was 4:30 in the evening until just before dark. We continue to use Joe Spait's chrome/chartreuse flutter spoon. When you find the White Bass schooling, make a long cast and bring the spoon slowly through them and hold on. You will get bit! The Catfish were still hungry this week. Punch bait and 30 feet of water around baited trees was a deadly combination. Lake Fork Marina has a great supply of Strike King KVD 1.5 crankbaits. Make sure you pick a good supply of them before you head out for a day of bass fishing here at beautiful Lake Fork. For you White Bass fishermen they also have a great supply of Joe's flutter spoons. Make sure you pick up several! Guess what has arrived at Longview Marine in Longview, TX? The all new Ranger Z521c. What a great new boat! It is the Platinum Edition, powered by a Yamaha 250 SHO motor. It has a Lowrance HDS 10 in the console and a HSD 8 in the bow, Structure Scan, Oxygenated Livewells, Minnkota Fortrex 101US2 foot controlled trolling motor and much, much more. Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
