Lake Fork Fishing Report for October 14, 2019

It was an interesting week here at Lake Fork, TX. Water temperatures fell to 72 degrees and the lake started to turn over thanks to a cold front on Thursday. The Bass fishing started to pick up and several good fish in the 5 to 7 pound range were caught. Two different patterns worked well this well this week. The first is the Carolina rigged Berkley Blue Fleck Power Worm fished in 6 to 8 foot of water. The next is the Strike King KVD 1.5 square bill crankbait in the gizzard shad pattern fished in 4 to 6 foot of water along weed beds. It is noted while the lake is turning over you might want to change the color of the Strike King 1.5 to the chartreuse with black back.

The Crappie fishing was good this week. We did have to go to the all chartreuse color on our jigs mainly because of the lake turn over. The Crappies were still in 18 to 22 foot of water on brush piles. The bridge anglers were struggling this week.

The White Bass anglers had a hard time this week. A few White bass were caught on Joe Spaits chrome and chartreuse Flashtail jigging spoon in 24 foot of water on creek bends. White Bass fishing will pick once the lake finishes turning over.

The Catfish anglers also had a tough time this week. Most of the Catfish were caught in 26 foot of water using punch bait. Do not forget to bait your trees.

On our Equipment list, this week was our Ranger Z520c powered by a Mercury 250 Pro XS from Nichols Marine in Longview TX, Duckett Rods, Lew’s reels, Stren line, Eagle Claw hooks, Bubba Baits Crappie jigs, Buddy’s Custom Baits from here at Lake Fork and Strike King hard baits.
Here at J & M Guide Service we still have one day open this week to help you get ready for the Berkley Tournament this coming weekend. Gives us a call at (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us at [email protected]. Have a safe fishing week.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 9)

GOOD. Water Stained; 82 degrees; 0.23 feet above pool. Fork : Top waters early around pond weed and grass with frogs and poppers still working . Mid morning chatter baits on the outside edge of grass in 3-5 ft is good as well as shaky heads . Best bite is Carolina rigs off shore on points , road beds and humps in 12-25 ft . Big worms and flukes are good . Deep Cranks are good over the same area when the fish are suspending 19-23 ft . Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Lily fields are filling in, hydrilla and milfoil are reaching for the surface. Fish this type of cover at mid day when bass are seeking cover. Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation early and late. Small fish patterns like a dock knocker are producing bass and crappie shallow near grass. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Lake Fork crappie fishing has been super up and down this past week. The fish are stacked up on brush piles, lay downs, tire reefs and some trees. The bite is the tricky part. Some days the bite is good and the bigger fish show up. Some days the bite is just off and the short fish show up. Seems like the bite may be better on days we have a little breeze. If the winds are calm the bite is very slow. Minnows will get some bites but small 1/32nd ounce hand tied jigs with small bodies and tails are working well on fish that don’t want to bite. Best depths have been 18-13ft with most fish suspended on trees and loaded in the brush. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
