Lake Fork Fishing Report for October 23 , 2017

Fall is here at beautiful Lake Fork Texas. The water temperatures are falling to 75 degrees and the water clarity is still stained. The Bass fishing is fare with a few good upper slot fish being caught and a good over the slot fish in the 9 to 10 pound class showing up on the scales on occasion. Numerous small fish are being caught in the Hydrilla and Duckweed. The watermelon/red and the watermelon/candy Berkley Havoc Bottom Hopper rigged wacky style were the big producers this week. A few Bass were still being caught on a 1/2–ounce chrome and black rattle Trap in 6 to 8 foot of water. For the folks that like to drop shot rig the Havoc green/pumpkin Bottom Hopper junior worked well in 4 to 8 foot of water around docks. On our equipment list, this week was our ranger 520c powered by a Mercury 250 Pro SX, Duckett rods, ABU Garcia Orra SX reels, Stren line and Berkley soft plastics.

The White Bass were still scattered out on main lake points and humps in 28 to 30 foot of water. They were being caught on Joe Spaits chrome and chartreuse ½-ounce Flash tail spoon and on Bubba’s Bait ¼-ounce chartreuse with white tail crappie jig tipped with a minnow.

The Crappie anglers are still having a lot of fun here at Lake Fork. The Crappies are being caught in 20 to 24 foot of water over isolated brush piles on a white with orange tail 1/8-ounce Bubba’s Bait Crappie jig. Do not move the Crappie very much. They wanted the jig moved very slowly and the bite was very light.

The Catfish were not very hungry this week. Most of them were caught in 18 to 24 foot of water over isolated brush piles on punch bait.

Now that the Berkley Tournament is over with, we can get back to some serious fall Bass and Crappie fishing. Give us a call here at J & M Guide Service (903) 413-6919 or E-mail us at [email protected] . Have a safe fishing week.

Lake Fork

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 1)

GOOD. Water Stained; 60 degrees; 0.67 feet above pool. Lake Fork flood gates are open which can make the bite tough. The best bite has been on shaky heads and Carolina rigs on main lake points and secondary points in 5-8 feet of water. Squarebill crankbaits are catching a few in the same areas. Frog bite is slow over flooded grass. Yum dingers are fair at the edge of the grass 2-4 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. The crappie fishing on Lake Fork has been great this week if you find the right areas and patterns to fish. The spawn is coming to an end and the black crappie are beginning to load up on certain bridges and docks. If you search you can find some big schools of keeper size black crappie. We have had to battle heavy rains, terrible winds and even thunderstorms lately a lot. Hopefully we will see more stable weather conditions over the next few weeks. You can still find some larger white crappie on timber in 10-22ft. Also seeing some white crappie loading up on certain brush in some areas close to where they spawned. Jigs and minnows are both producing well right now and should stay the same until around June or July. Catfishing is still hot on Lake Fork. Baited holes in 12-20ft along creek channels are doing great for channel cats. Use cattle cubes or sour grain to get them to hold in one spot. Then use any prepared catfish bait or cut shad to load the boat with eater sized catfish. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
