Lake Fork Fishing Report for October 30, 2013

With Fall upon us, the trees starting to turn and the water temperatures are getting down into the mid 70's and the Bass are starting to feed. Here at Lake Fork that means little crankbait time. The strike King KVD 1.5 continues to be your best bet. I have had the best luck with the standard shad color, but up in the creeks the chartreuse/black KVD 1.5 is also working. Speaking of the creeks, a lot of Aquatic Vegetation is starting to show up and the Bass are starting to relate to it. We started using the 6 inch Zoom Finesse worm, wacky style in and around the edges of the Aquatic Vegetation. We have been using the chartreuse/pumpkin color with a heavier weight in the nose to get the finesse worm down through the vegetation. The White Bass are still scattered out this week. We found them on shape creek bends in 18 to 20 feet of water. Joe's flutter spoon is the constant producer and chrome/chartreuse was the best color. If you are fishing in the clear water down by the damn, you might want to use the chrome/blue. The Crappie fishermen had another good week of fishing. They were finding the better Crappie over old trash piles in 14 to 20 foot of water. Small minnows were the best producer. The Catfish were still eating well. They are in 28 to 32 foot of water around baited trees on creek bends and old ditches. Punch bait was still the bait of choice this week. Lake Fork Marina has a large selection of the Strike King KVD square bill crankbaits and also has all the minnows you need to catch those Crappies with. For you gals, you might want to stop in and check out Dana's selection of women's apparel. I usually talk about Bass boats. Well I am switching gears and I want to talk to the Crappie fishermen. Nichols Marine in Longview, TX has one of the best Crappie boats on the market. It is a "Ranger RT178C". It comes with a 60ELPT EFI 4 stroke motor, aluminum prop, Lowrance X4 Pro in dash, two bank charger, Motorguide FW46 foot control trolling motor, spare tire and the aluminum wheel upgrade. So stop by and see them or give them a call @ (903) 663-5008. We have several dates for Fall and Winter guided fishing trips open, so give us a call Toll Free: 1-888-454-7037 or E-mail us at: [email protected] Have a great fishing week.

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
