Lake Fork Fishing Report for September 4, 2013

The heat monster is still with us. The water temperatures are still in the mid to upper 80's with some creek water temperatures still in the lower 90's. The water level continues to drop; we are now approaching 6 feet vertical. More and more ramps are closing due to falling water levels. However, ramps like Pope's, and both 515 ramps are still in good shape. The water clarity is still improving from the lake turn over. The Bass fishing is starting to improve still using a blue fleck Zoom worm (Mag II), Texas rigged. The best water depth is 3 to 12 feet along main lake points and major creek sub-points. The Equipment we us used this week was a Denny Brauer 7.4 worm rod and an Ardent Edge Tournament Reel spooled with Stren 17 pound clear blue fluorescent line. The Crappie fishing continued to be slow this week. The straight minnow Crappie rig still worked the best in 22 to 24 foot of water around the bridges. The White Bass fishing was also slow this week. The White Bass are scattered out on main lake humps. Joe Spaits spoon is the best bait to catch White Bass constantly. The Catfish are still on a diet this week. A few nice Catfish are being caught on drop lines and trout lines. Cut bait was still the best bait this week. Here at Lake Fork, Lake Fork Marina has the best selection of Strike King 6XD, 10XD and square Bill crank baits. They also have a great selection of Joe Spaits Spoons. Make sure you pick up plenty of water and ice to stop the dehydration factor while you are fighting the Lake Fork monster bass. Nichols Marine in Longview, TX has the all new Ranger RT188 Aluminum Bass boat in stock. This 18 foot 8 inch boat comes with a Mercury 4 stroke 115 Hp motor, Motor Guide 24 volt 75 lb. thrust trolling motor, 2 bank battery charger and a Lowrance X4 Pro depth finder. You talk about storage, "it has it"! Come check out this great fishing machine. Here at J & M Guide Service we still have a couple of days open for guided fishing trips to get you ready for the McDonalds Big Bass Splash and the Berkley Bass Tournaments. We have half and full day trips available. Just give us a call Toll Free: 1-888-454-7037 or E-mail us at: [email protected]. Have a great fishing week and wear that life vest if your big motor is running. "For the life you save might your own". Cheers John Morris J & M Guide Service

Fishing Report from TPWD (May 7)

GOOD. Water Stained; 73 degrees; 0.73 feet below pool. Good early morning bass bite around shad spawn areas and with topwater frogs over grass. Midday to mid afternoon work flukes and yum dingers around grass good1-3 feet. New wave of spawners pulling up this week. Carolina rigs fair in 5-10 feet of water on secondary points. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Black bass are post spawn and the top water bite is on! Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation. The crappie are moving shallow, small clousers are producing well. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Crappie fishing is settling into the post spawn and summer patterns we should see for the next few months. We are seeing incredible numbers of small black crappie right now loading up on brush piles, lay downs, bridges and docks. The larger black crappie are a little hard to find but you can find some nice groups of them or pick a few out of the smaller fish. The bigger white crappie are beginning to load on the summer pattern trees. We have a tremendous amount of fry covering up a lot of those trees and making it very hard to see those bigger white crappie on forward facing sonar or for them to see your bait. You can find fish in 10-30 feet of water and some may only be 2 feet under the surface or right on the bottom. Minnows and any colored jigs are both producing extremely well. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
