Lake Fork Guide David Vance Trophy Bass Fishing Report

The fishing here on Lake Fork has been great the last few days. There are fish in all depths from a foot of water out to 20 feet. The shallow water bite has been excellent with all the new flooded cover, early in the morning throwing frogs over the top of scattered grass and cover. The Frog bite has been very aggressive, and when you get bit you will definitely know they are killing it, best color on the frog for me has been Black, Watermelon, or White.

Once you feel like you have caught the active fish in the area try moving out to main lake and secondary points and work a Carolina Rig, right now the best bait for me has been a Watermelon Red Brush Hog, we have been catching some big post spawn bass on this pattern. Bill Amos and his Dad James from St Louis fished with me the last two days and we boated 45 bass and Bill had one that went 8 lb 3oz and 7 lb 12oz most of these bass came on the Carolina Rig.

May and June are great months to fish Lake Fork it is our best top water time, and it can last all day. My best top water baits right now are a Stanley Ribbit, a 1/8 oz Buzz Bait, Yellow Magic. Good places to try right now are Little Caney, Wolfe, Chaney Branch, Ray Branch, Bell Branch The lake has come up over 7 feet and is full now and is in great shape, now through June are lining up to be some of the best fishing of the year. If you are looking for some great May and June fishing Lake Fork is the place to be, book your trip now for best available dates you can reach me at 903-629-5085 or check out my web site www.lakeforktexasbigbass.com

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 23)

GOOD. Water Stained; 90 degrees; 0.27 feet above pool. Bass are good with frogs, buzz baits and poppers early morning on points and grass lines or around pond weed. Mid morning bite is good on shaky heads and square bill crankbaits around docks and bream beds in 3-6 feet of water. Offshore bite has slowed due to the full moon, but should bounce back. Carolina rigs, deep crankbaits, power shaky heads and Texas rigs around road beds, points, humps and channel swings in 15-24 feet are good. Report by Marc Mitchell, Mitchell’s Guide Service. Lily fields are filling in, hydrilla and milfoil are reaching for the surface. Fish this type of cover at mid day when bass are seeking cover. Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation early and late. Small fish patterns like a dock knocker are producing bass and crappie shallow near grass. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet biting clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Lake Fork crappie fishing is in a summer pattern with fish loaded up on brush piles, laydowns and trees. Best depths seem to be 14-24 feet of water with fish all up and down the water column. It is time to go to small minnows, small hand tied baits, small soft plastics and many times you keep those baits moving over fish. We are still weeding through a tremendous number of short crappie, but this means the future of crappie fishing is looking very good. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
