November Meeting of The Well Armed Woman

The Lake Fork Chapter of The Well Armed Woman met at their usual location, J&K’s Trigger and Bow Shooting Sports range on FM 154 south of Sulphur Springs, Texas. There were 21 in attendance at the November meeting. NRA Instructor, Ladale York led the Distinguished Expert course of fire for ladies that achieved their Expert level of the Winchester Marksmanship Qualification Program. Those that are working on other levels watched to see what was instore for them. A photographer from the Sulphur Springs newspaper came to photograph this epic event.

After the shooting was complete and guns put away, everyone went inside to applaud the shooters receiving their awards. For the Distinguished Expert level each received a Certificate of Achievement, an embroidered rocker that completes their patch and rockers, a medal, and a small lapel pin. Each also will be reported to the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program’s Distinguished Expert roster of recognition. After refreshments were shared a group picture was taken of the members in their new purple chapter shirts.

There will not be a December meeting and shoot. But join us January 5th to hear Mandy Bachman, IDPA Social Media, talk about competitive shooting and demonstrate the proper way to draw from a holster. Although it’s getting dark early we will make the best of our time. We will shoot from 4-5:45pm (or dark) and go inside for the program from 6-7pm. Non-members are welcome but you must be a member before you can shoot…it’s an insurance requirement. For more information contact Peggy York, Lake Fork Chapter Leader at 903-473-2185.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jun. 25)

GOOD. Water Stained; 82 degrees; 0.28 feet above pool. There is a good morning bass bite around pond weed and grass with topwater baits and flukes. Bass are good in front of the weeds with chatterbaits and spinnerbaits in 3-5 feet. Midday bite is best on points and humps with Texas rigs and Carolina rigs in 12-22 feet with big worms and flukes. Deep diving crankbaits are good over road beds, points and humps in 19-26 feet with shad patterned, or chartreuse/blue/black crankbaits. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Lily fields are filling in, hydrilla and milfoil are reaching for the surface. Fish this type of cover at midday when bass are seeking cover. Frog patterns are working in the shallow vegetation early and late. Drop a clouser on an isolated cover for black bass. Large bream have moved shallow, wooly buggers are producing good fish. Channel catfish are cruising 2-4 feet, clousers are a good choice. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Lake Fork crappie fishing is improving as we enter the summer pattern. Loads of small fish under 10 inches are still being caught daily, but a lot more large fish are stacking up on brush piles, tire reefs, artificial structures and the base of trees. You can still find some fish on bridges, underwater bridges and road beds in 16-26 feet. Minnows, small hand ties and soft plastics are all working. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.
