Update on Lake Fork fish attractors

Fisheries staff recently checked up on the PVC fish attractors that we partnered with the Lake Fork Sportsman's Association to help build and sunk back in February.

Here is an underwater image of five PVC structures recorded with side-imaging sonar, where we observed fish of various sizes! Staff spoke with one angler fishing the attractors that said he caught some bass and sunfish. Staff also confirmed small crappie were using the structures with one of our more sophisticated sampling gears (i.e. rod & reel and a dozen minnows).

There are currently 22 fish attractors at four locations on Lake Fork, and we will be building 40 more PVC fish attractors to place at new locations around Lake Fork soon. Funding for the fish attractors has been provided by Friends of Reservoirs and restitution funding provided by TPWD's Kills and Spills Team. Visit our website for the locations of these and other fish attractors in Texas lakes:

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jul. 30)

Water stained; 90 degrees; 0.27 feet above pool. Early morning bite has slowed down a bit but main lake points and shorelines with pond weed are best with poppers, frogs and some spook-type baits. Offshore bite is good in 12-18 feet on road beds, points, and humps with Carolina rigs, power shaky heads and Texas rigs with big worms. Deep crankbaits over these areas are also working with DD 22 in shad patterns. Report by Marc Mitchell, Mitchell's Guide Service. Topwater bass bite is good the last 2 hours of daylight using poppers and frog patterns. Daytime fishing around boat houses for catfish and bream using cone heads and clousers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service.
