Winnsboro Farmers' Market
I was hired by the City of Winnsboro in November of 2011 when the Economic Director/Main Street Manager applied for and received a grant from the USDA and I have held the position of Market Manager since then. How I came to call Winnsboro my home is another story, but briefly; I’ll provide some background information about myself. I grew up in a small town in Indiana and couldn’t wait to move to the big city (Chicago). After high school graduation, like the day after; I packed up my car and moved. Many years later I obtained my degree from DePaul University. Having spent most of my adult life living and working in the corporate world of Chicago, I grew tired of the hustle and bustle. My mind would wonder to memories of simpler times in a small, quiet town. After 20+ years of corporate politics, too much traffic, and too many cold winters I guess I had enough. I found my way to Winnsboro when my life partner and I (Valiant Vetter) were driving through Texas returning from a trip further south. We stopped in Winnsboro to visit a friend who was working on a ranch and immediately fell in love with the town and the people, so much so, that we moved here and “retired” into an organic farm business, raising and selling organic heritage pork, eggs, turkeys, and produce. We’ve been involved in the Farmers’ Market ever since.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Aug. 27)

GOOD. Water cloudy to clear; 85-90 degrees; 0.74 feet below pool. Lake is 10 inches low. Morning bass bite is shallow for a couple of hours around grass and bream beds. Chatterbaits and square bills are good in 2-5 feet. Mid morning target bass offshore a bit in 5-7 feet, 2.5 square bills are good around flats with lots of baitfish around. Shad patterns best. The midday and afternoon bite remains offshore on road beds, points, channel swings with deep crankbaits and Carolina rigs in 15-24 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Mitchell's Guide Service. Early and late topwater bite around grass lines and isolated cover on main lake and secondary points. Try frog and mouse patterns for topwater. Bass are beginning to school, a hard-bodied popper should work well. Bream are shallow, try small hoppers. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service.
